Fire Within (Philippines)

In a quiet cemetery, YOUNG BUBOY (13) scrapes candle remnants to sell for a few coins, determined to support his education. His humble earnings go towards watching educational videos at a pisonet shop. When his ballpen runs out of ink, he uses it to scrape candles. One day, Young Buboy meets YOUNG SALLY (17), a high school student visiting her father’s grave. Moved by his struggle, Sally gives Buboy a new pen and later, her old school books. Despite their different lives, they bond over shared aspirations and Sally’s encouragement helps Buboy dream of becoming a doctor. Years later, ADULT BUBOY (28) is a student in a classroom, waiting for his test results. His teacher, ADULT SALLY (33), recognizes him and leaves a note on his paper, urging him to “keep the fire burning.” This reminder of his journey fills Buboy with renewed determination to achieve his dreams.
